Five Little Angels
Pencil drawing of Jesus surrounded by five, adoring little girls who all died in one heartbreaking event. The happy expressions on the children’s faces assure us of the joy that awaits us all. Though tragedies occur, there is an eternal plan that provides peace, hope and comfort. Through His atonement, broken hearts can be healed and filled with joy in the knowledge that we can be with Him and our loved ones again. “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” (John 16:22) See “My Beliefs”

In 1998, five little girls (four of whom were cousins) died when they innocently climbed into the trunk of a car while playing on a hot summer day and closed the lid. In this drawing, Christ joyfully welcomes the young ones home. After numerous articles and pictures published covering the tragic event, the parents were grateful to receive this drawing conveying a happier perspective (one father referred to it as a “window into Heaven”). This is how they prefer to have their children remembered, and they have given their blessing for it to be made available.
Side note: The death of these five girls contributed greatly to eventual legislation requiring all cars be equipped with latch releases inside trunks.
